Bryant Lee Benoit · 1971–2026
A storyteller in collage.
Bryant grew up on Harmony Street in Washington Heights, on the north side of Lafayette. He taught himself to make art in 2009 and spent the rest of his life building canvases layer by layer out of photographs, paper and acrylic.
His work carries Creole family life, zydeco, faith and the history of the African Diaspora in Louisiana, several stories at once in every piece. He showed it at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, sold it to collectors across the country and abroad, and opened his own gallery so the art and the people it was about could meet.
